Introduction
Mechanical engineering is an engineering discipline that explores the technologies involved in designing, manufacturing, analyzing, and controlling various types of machinery that make human life convenient and prosperous, based on the fundamental principles of the natural world related to force, motion, and energy. As a foundational discipline for all fields ranging from traditional manufacturing to cutting-edge engineering sectors such as semiconductors, aerospace, and renewable energy, mechanical engineering is a top-priority core field of engineering with unceasing demand from the past through the present and into the future.
Mechanical engineering is based on mathematics and physics and the four major branches of mechanics: solid mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. Each of these fields is closely related to key areas of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as advanced materials, micro/nanotechnology, future robotics, next-generation energy storage systems, and renewable energy. Furthermore, mechanical engineering is expected to play a leading role in building an advanced industrial society, as it can serve as a center for multidisciplinary research through convergence with other engineering disciplines such as electrical and electronic engineering, materials science, computer science, and chemistry and biology.
The Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at Incheon National University envisions creative, innovative, and communicative engineers as the ideal talents required in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and aims to educate outstanding engineers who play leading roles in various fields across companies, research institutes, and academia. To achieve this goal, the department operates diverse educational tracks in areas such as semiconductors and batteries, mobility and robotics, and renewable energy generation. Under the guidance of faculty members who possess outstanding research achievements and industry-academia capabilities, the department provides comprehensive education ranging from basic theory to practical training.
