Attendance
Absences
- A student will be marked late beginning 10 minutes after the scheduled start of class.
- Three instances of tardiness will be counted as one absence.
- · Exceptions may be made in cases of natural disasters or other circumstances beyond the student’s control.
- · For courses consisting of both practical and theoretical instruction, two hours of absence from practical instruction will be counted as one hour of absence from theoretical instruction.
- A student who is absent for one-third or more of the actual class hours for a course will not receive credit for the course, regardless of other grades or assessments.
Excused Absences
- Participation in on-campus or off-campus events approved by the President or the head of the relevant college or graduate school
- Duration of the event
- Absence due to family events
- · Student’s own marriage - 7 days
- · Marriage of a sibling of the student or the student’s spouse - 1 day
- · Childbirth by the student - 20 days
- · Childbirth by the student’s spouse - 5 days
- · Death of the student’s spouse - 7 days
- · Death of a lineal ascendant of the student or the student’s spouse - 5 days
- · Death of the student’s child or the child’s spouse - 3 days
- · Death of an uncle or aunt of the student or the student’s spouse - 3 days
- · Death of a sibling of the student or the student’s spouse - 3 days
- Hospitalization or medical treatment - Up to 4 weeks
- · Minor illnesses or injuries, such as the common cold, are not eligible.
- · Supporting document: A medical certificate must be submitted stating that the student was unable to attend class due to hospitalization or medical treatment. The certificate must specify the period during which attendance was not possible, such as the isolation period, hospitalization period, or another medically necessary period of absence.
- Absence due to menstrual pain - 1 day per month
- · No supporting documents are required.
- Reinstatement following discharge from military service - Applicable period within 2 weeks from the beginning of the semester
- · This applies only when attendance is not possible because the student is discharged from military service during the semester.
- · The applicable period is limited to 2 weeks from the first day of the semester, not 2 weeks from the date of reinstatement.
- Teaching practicum, fieldwork, off-campus practicum, or graduation examination - Applicable period
- · Exhibitions and performances are included.
- · Activities undertaken for personal reasons and not organized by the student’s department are excluded.
- Changes to course registration due to course additions, course changes, or course cancellations - Applicable period
- No application for attendance recognition or supporting documents is required.
- Employed students enrolled in their eighth semester or beyond - 11 weeks [See the details below.]
- Students enrolled in their eighth semester or beyond who take an employment examination, interview, recruitment screening, or employment-related medical examination - Applicable date
- [Contract-Based Department] Business trips assigned by an employer - Within 10% of the total class hours for each course
- Absence due to military service obligations (mandatory recognition) - Applicable period
- · This applies only to reserve forces training, mobilization training, physical examinations for military enlistment, and other obligations under the Reserve Forces Act and the Military Service Act.
- · Absence caused by discharge from military service during the semester is not included.
- · Supporting documents: Certificate of reserve forces training attendance, available from the Reserve Forces website; certificate of attendance for mobilization training, available from the Military Manpower Administration website; or certificate of attendance for a military service physical examination, available from the Military Manpower Administration website.

Application Period
As a general rule, applications must be submitted within seven days before or after the date of absence. If this is unavoidable, students must consult the course instructor in advance.
Important Notes
Recognition of attendance is at the discretion of the course instructor and is not mandatory. Students are advised to ask the instructor in advance whether the absence may be recognized as an excused absence.
* Exceptions
Absences due to reserve forces training, mobilization training, or a physical examination for military enlistment must be recognized as excused absences.
