Introduction
The Dept. of Consumer Science has developed as the importance of interest in and the roles of consumers, as economic agents, has been emphasized as the market economy transitions from a producer-centered to a consumer-centered structure. The department aims to contribute to the realization of consumer sovereignty and welfare by taking an interest in and actively resolving consumer issues that may arise within a diversifying economic and social environment.
Consumer studies is a multidisciplinary discipline characterized by its practical nature and the handling of many realistic topics; it is a field that requires diversity in research subjects and an integrated approach. The Dept. of Consumer Science analyzes consumer choice behavior and provides a specialized curriculum designed to enhance the capacity to efficiently improve consumer life and solve consumer problems, based on rational decision-making processes and the socio-psychological factors influencing consumer behavior. Specifically, this enables students to cultivate the capacity for rational choice in solving consumer issues in the market, efficient resource management skills, and the capacity to develop systems and policies for consumer welfare and the improvement of the consumer environment. Furthermore, through curricula related to consumer psychology and behavioral analysis, students can develop the necessary competencies in areas such as customer management, experience design, consumer satisfaction, and product development.
Certifications related to the Dept. of Consumer Science include Professional Consumer Counselor (National Certification), Certified Consumer Affairs Specialist, AFPK, CFP, Credit Counselor (National Certification), Certified Consumer Trend Specialist, Social Survey Analyst (National Certification), and Distribution Manager (National Certification).
