Lee Kwang-yong, the Fourth and Final Speaker in INU School of Law’s Career Lecture Series: A Story of Growth Through Failure
Beloved for his appearances on KBS programs such as “Walking into the World” and “The Day in History,” announcer Lee Kwang-yong will conclude the INU School of Law’s major-specific career lecture series with a talk titled “A Walk into the INU School of Law.”
The lecture will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, in the 3rd-floor seminar room of the Faculty Association Building at Incheon National University. Under the theme “Eighty Percent of What Made Me Was Failure – The Story of Lee Kwang-yong, an Announcer Who Grew Through Failure,” Lee will share his experiences with students from the School of Law.
Ahead of the event, Lee reflected on his broadcasting career spanning more than 20 years. He plans to candidly share four major failures he experienced, the valuable lessons he gained from them, and his deeply personal story of “standing at the starting line once again, ready for the next failure.”
After being selected as a KBS announcer in the 29th open recruitment in 2003, Lee showcased his outstanding hosting skills across various genres—including current affairs, cultural programs, entertainment, and sports—until 2024. He is widely recognized for his clear diction, stable vocal delivery, calm presence, and witty style.
Following his retirement from KBS last year, he became the first announcer to sign with Rico Sports, a major sports agency representing top Korean baseball players such as Kim Hyun-soo, Koo Ja-wook, and Yang Eui-ji. He is currently serving as a commentator for the 2025 K League on the football-focused sports channel Sky Sports.
Of special interest is the lineup of this year’s lecture series. Alongside former National Assembly member Yoo Seung-min (March 19), Rep. Park Joo-min (March 31), and announcer Kang Sung-chul (May 1), Lee joins as the fourth and final speaker. It is notable that two influential politicians and two well-known announcers have all taken the podium in this series. Also worth noting is the interesting backstory of how Lee came to join the lecture series through his connection with announcer Kang Sung-chul.
Jo Ji-hee, a student in the School of Law at INU, remarked, “It feels surreal to meet a famous broadcaster through this lecture series. I think it’s a valuable opportunity to hear vivid stories of the announcer’s life, which often appears glamorous from the outside.” She added, “We warmly welcome announcer Lee Kwang-yong as he ‘walks into the INU School of Law.’ I believe this will be a meaningful day that truly motivates us in our career exploration.”
Professor Lee Chung-hoon, Dean of the School of Law, stated, “We sincerely thank the distinguished guests who visit our university and encourage our students. Their vivid stories become invaluable nourishment for young university students preparing to spread their wings and take flight.”
